BALLET JAZZ LYRICAL CONTEMPORARY
Ballet is the most important dance fundamental and provides the necessary technical foundation, quality of movement and artistry, which supports most genres of dance.
Jazz dance is an American dance form which evolves and changes with the latest popular styles. Students work on placement and technique while also learning popular dances and current dance styles. This class consists of floor stretches, flexibility and balancing skills, leaps, turns and dance combinations. Jazz students are also encouraged to study ballet.
Lyrical incorporates the technical elements of ballet with jazz and modern movements. Students will learn how to express a wide range of emotions through their dance based on musical interpretation.
Contemporary is an extremely artistic style of dance. It is a fusion of ballet, jazz, and modern dance, and usually contains an emotional journey, or story. There is a lot of creative freedom when it comes to contemporary dance.
HIP HOP IMPROV PRE-POINTE
Hip Hop is a street style of dance that focuses on self-expression and movement that involves the whole body. Hip Hop focuses on techniques of gliding, popping, locking, breaking and whacking. Hip-Hop is perfect for the beginning or advanced student who has the desire to participate in a less structured dance form which does not require knowledge or training in classical technique.
Improv does not contain anything choreographed. It is simply movement that each individual dancer comes up with. Class consists of moving across the floor and dancing whatever goes along with what is given. Exercises, such as partner improv, will be performed.
Pre-Pointe This class focuses on gaining the necessary foot, ankle, and lower leg strength and flexibility needed to execute proper pointe technique. This class is by instructor invitation only.
LEAPS & TURNS ACRO/TUMBLING FLEXIBILITY CORE STRENGTH
Leaps and Turns class will dissect these two technical movements: teaching basic building blocks to master a variety of turns and leaps which are used in jazz and in choreography. Great emphasis will be placed on the body’s center, from which all movements begin and end, making it possible to maintain balance and control while executing turns, high extensions and powerful leaps. Spotting techniques will be studied to properly execute a variety of turns to reduce the dizzying effect of repeated rotation.
Acro/Tumbling includes flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline & concentration. This class will focus on fundamental acrobatic technique. Students will learn such things as handstands, chin stands, elbow stands, cartwheels, back bends, walkovers, balance, & contortion tricks.
Flexibility, Core, Strength will improve flexibility, body alignment, and strength. This class trains in building strength by isolating specific muscle groups, and uses stretching to become a well-rounded athlete.
COMPETITION TEAM
AMP Competition Team Program gives dancers the opportunity to express themselves through their art with
exemplary technique and innovative choreography.
Our program is intensive, creative and disciplined. We attend dance competitions and conventions where our students continually excel. We take pride in encouraging a supportive and motivating atmosphere amongst our students. The studio is a home away from home for our dancers and a place where lifelong friendships are made.
Being apart of the AMP Team is like being a part of a big family. Competition Team is a wonderful opportunity to develop a skill, build self esteem and learn to work well with others. It is our goal that each and every member of our team reach their fullest potential.
